It all started when...
Several years ago, I was graduating from High School and trying to decide where to go and what to be. It's often so difficult to decide at such a young age, but I believe if you follow your heart, your path will lead you to exactly where you need to be. I followed my heart to a small art school in my hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I was going to major in Wig and Makeup Design and in just 4 years, I would follow my dream of living in New York City and being a professional makeup artist for theatre and film. That is exactly what I did. For a while...
I loved going to that art school, and I made wonderful friends, incredible memories and I made a way for myself to follow my dream. I learned from experts in the hair and makeup field all about every little detail you could know about hair, wigs, makeup, special effects and the entertainment industry. I took that education and only a few short days after graduation, I moved up to New York City. The stereotypical small-town girl in the big city scenario.
I hustled my way as a freelance hair & makeup artist from small downtown theatres and no-budget, no pay gigs up to the backstages of Broadway in just under 2 years. I was doing great, and I was starting to get comfortable in my place in the city when I got the offer to be on the hair & makeup crew for some low-budget indie film in Massachusetts. I was in no place to turn down a month of a steady work so I hopped on the train and made my way up the coast.
I made friends on the set quickly and one guy, a lighting guy from Connecticut, stuck out to me almost from the start. His name was David and to this day, he and I swear it was love at first sight. I fell in love with his manly, rock-n-roll vibe and he fell in love with my gypsy, free-spirited attitude. After the movie wrapped and we went our separate ways, I thought it was over but he soon came to the city and swept me off feet and we have been inseparable ever since. After a year of long-distance dating, I had to be with him for good. So I left my busy life and my tiny apartment in the city and moved in with him to a much bigger, and cheaper apartment in Connecticut.
I immediately got to work to get my cosmetology license in Connecticut and after a year of beauty school I began working at a salon. I learned a lot and I enjoyed having roots and a steady paycheck somewhere finally. But the idea of working so hard for someone else's dream was dragging me down. The weight and stress of that burden was taking its toll.
Eventually (finally if you ask me), David & I got engaged, and we planned a beautiful wedding in Black Mountain, North Carolina. I quickly fell in love with all of the wedding planning details and the process of it all. I am a huge sucker for all things pretty and all things romantic, and of course weddings are all of those things and so much more.
After the wedding, I decided it was time to take control of my life and live out my dreams in every aspect of it. And so in a sort of epiphany moment of trying to figure out exactly what I should do with this life of mine, I decided it was time I used all of my experiences and all of my expertise and created my own business and married together all of my passions.
And now after 8 years of experience and knowledge in so many areas, my paths have lead me here all along: A bridal hair and makeup business with a modern, bohemian style and an emphasis on natural beauty.
Stay tuned for what this adventure holds.
